6 Easy Ways to Practice Self Care as a Busy Parent

We know, life is nonstop and you just don’t have time for one. more. thing. Not to worry! These self care tips are so simple to slip into your daily routine that soon you’ll be wondering how you ever lived without them.

  1. Rehydrate

We’ll start with the easiest one first - kick off your day with a cup of coffee water. According to experts, we usually start the day a bit dehydrated. Now, we’re not saying you need to totally give up your morning caffeine fix, just save it for your second beverage of the day.

2. Bust a Move

Put on your favorite tunes and have yourself a quick little dance party. Don’t forget to have some fun and let loose every now and then! “Alexa - turn up the volume!”

3. Get Outside

Fresh air does a body good! Enjoying time outside helps reduce stress and fatigue, lower blood pressure, and focus on the now. It can also improve your sleep!

4. Move Your Body

Try to spend about 30 minutes a day moving your body in whichever way you choose. Whether that means a high intensity gym workout or a stroll in the park is up to you. Daily exercise can boost your mood, reduce stress and anxiety, and help you shed extra weight, if that’s your goal. Don’t have 30 full minutes? Three 10-minute sessions work just as well!

5. Take Five

Spend (at least) 5 minutes decompressing alone every day. Self-care doesn’t have to be expensive or involve some long, drawn-out routine; it can be as simple as putting your devices away for five minutes to sit with your thoughts.

6. Get Some Z’s

Yes, mom was right (of course!) and sleep IS actually super important! Approximately 40% of Americans get less than seven hours of sleep a night but an average of seven to nine hours is the goal. So, while our general message here is don’t snooze on self-care, in this case, go right ahead!

None of that sounds so hard, right?! What will you add to your self-care routine first?
